At 11 am on a wet and windy morning our Ladies Champion of Champions finals commenced. The Chairman of Seaton Sluice welcomed all the players and spectators brave enough to face the weather to their bowling green and thanked the County for the honour of holding the finals before handing the green over to BNW President V Shepherd.
The day began with S MacDonald (HX) facing K Proctor (BD), Susan started slowly, only scoring 3 shots by 11 ends while Kayleigh had scored 10. At which point Susan started to pull shots back scoring 6 on the next 4 consecutive ends to trail by 1 after 15 ends played.
Over the next 3 ends Kayleigh scored a further 3 shots while conceding 2. Unfortunately for Kayleigh, 13 proved to be unlucky as she dropped 4 shots over the last 3 ends (2,1,1) – narrowly missing the jack on the last end to take it to an extra end.
Susan was crowned 2 wood ch of ch for 2021 winning 13 -15.
However, for Kayleigh the day was not over- after a short 10 minute break (and warm up!) she took to the green again, this time to face J Pritt (M) in the 4 bowl ch of ch final.
Jean made a steady start scoring 1s on the opening 3 ends while Kayleigh was yet to score. Kayleigh soon found her second wind and scored 8 over 5 ends whilst dropping 1, leading 8 – 4. Just as Jean was beginning to close the gap, Kayleigh scored a further 4 shots (12 -7) before dropping another 2.
Kayleigh continued to pick up shots, scoring a further 7 shots over 4 ends leading 19 – 9. Jean was determined the game wasn’t over and made Kayleigh play a further 5 ends before being able to score the final 2 she needed to win (21 – 13)
