Bowls England National Finals has reached the end of this week. We (as in Northumberland) has been quite the last couple of days with only our Men’s Junior Singles (Under 25) in action yesterday.
Our Junior Singles Champion, Benfield’s Matty Bishop got off to a great start in the prelim round beating Kryan Fortune from Shaldon, Devon 21 – 14. In round 2 Matty was up against North Greenwich, Middlesex and England Under 18 Champion, in 15 year old Ollie Shearing, and unfortunately for Matty he lost narrowly 21 – 18. Our other representative Westerhope’s Jan Walton withdrew due to ill health.
Today saw the start of the Women’s Senior Pairs, with our Alnwick duo of Susan Ratcliffe & Vivienne Shepherd took on Jenny Ralph & Jackie Bryan (Bedfordshire). Unfortunately for our girls we lost 20 – 10.
Tomorrow, Thursday will see the start of the Men’s Triples – with two Gosforth’s teams in action. First to play is Dan Targar, Josh Minto & Chris Yeomans, who will take on Peter Judge, Gary Birtles & Dave Pitt from Cambridge Park, Middlesex at 9:15am, and other triple of Richard Curtis, John Harthen & Jimmy Curtis play Jason Trow, Nic Holley, Jason Avery from Folkestone Park, Kent at 12:45pm. Winners of each game will be back in action at 4:15pm.
We wish both triples the very best of luck tomorrow.
