BE National Finals Day 15

Back to news

Well today on a sunny, bright, warm day at Leamington Spa at the Bowls England National Finals our hopes of success rested in the 2 Bowl Singles championships – for both Women & Men.

As posted yesterday our representatives were from one club – Benfield – and our representatives are Rachel Cartwright in the Women’s Championship, and Matty Bishop & Jonty King in the Men’s Championship.

First in action today was Rachel, and the silver medallist from the Mixed Fours started well as Rachel defeated Shirley Pert from Ipswich Ladies, Suffolk by 19 – 11 in the prelim. Next up for Rachel was Jorja Jaction from Brampton, Huntingdonshire in round 1 and unfortunately Rachel lost 16 – 3.

So over to the Men – first up was Jonty King; and Jonty took on Will Allen from Poplar, Middlesex – and Jonty lost a close contest 14 – 9. So our last hope in this championship was with Matty Bishop, and Matty played Ian Snowdon from Headington, Oxfordshire. Like his club colleague Matty lost a close contest 14 – 9.

So we now look forward to tomorrow with the Mixed Pairs; with Wooler’s Victoria Symons & St. Georges Dragons Gary Myerscough already through to the last 16. Victoria & Gary play at 5:30pm and will face Wendy Hobbis & Andy Walters from Warwickshire.

County Mixed Pairs Champions. Gary Myerscough (St. George’s Dragons) & Victoria Symons (Wooler BC)

As always we wish Victoria & Gary all the very best tomorrow.
