Alsop Cup Victory

Back to news

Bowls Northumberland good news continues, following the ladies Walker Cup win – our Men’s Alsop team were in action against Yorkshire and triumphed in their opening game of the season.

The game was played at Smith’s Dock BC, Middlesbrough.

Team Manager Jim Holmes gave 4 debuts – which included two under 18 players – who are Luke Jameson, Luke Heard. The other two debutants are slightly over 18 – and they are Collingwood’s Alan Gibson and Gosforth’s Mal Cooper.

Overall it was a great victory in a relatively new team with all rinks changed from the 2022 campaign.

Our next fixture is in 3 weeks for the Alsop, where we will face Lancashire at St. Georges. Hopefully Lancashire will be able to field a team, as today they played Cumbria away – and only had 22 players – but still played.

Well done to all concerned today.
