The first two rounds of the Women’s 4 Bowl Champion of Champions took place today at Collingwood BC. The morning games were lucky to play in the sunshine but the second round group had to play in sunshine and rain so jackets were on and off!!
Prelim Rounds:
- S.Carter (HX) 21 v A.Dunton (P) 12
Shelagh got off to a flying start in this game leading 10-3 after 8 ends. Amy kept pushing hard to get back into the game and by end 15 was just 9-14 down. Shelagh finished with a 3 and 2×2 to win the game 21-12. There were some great heads in this game.
- M.Ross (G) 21 v M.Allen (R) 13
Another cracking game with some very tight heads. Marie took an early lead of 6-0 after 4 ends. Then Mattea began to find her line and by the 10th end she had a lead of 10-7. Mattea maintained this pressure and by the 17th end she had extended her lead to 17-9. Marie replied with a 3&1 to cut her deficit back to 13-17. However Mattea secured her win taking a 4 on the last end.
- V.Dent (WR) 21 v D.Tait (M) 9
Victoria got off to a flying start taking 2×3 on the first 2 ends. Then Dorothy replied with a 1 & 2×2 to cut her deficit down to 5-6. By the 11th end Victoria had extended her lead to 16-8. Dorothy answered with a 1 on end 12 but Victoria maintained the pressure to win 21-9.
- S.Atkinson (RY) 22 v S.Alden (AM) 12
It was great to see two new faces in this competition. Su from Rothbury took an early lead of 6-1 after 5 ends. After 10 ends she had extended her lead to 11-5. Sandy from Amble never gave up and after 16 ends she had cut her deficit to 12-16. Su pushed hard taking 2×3 on the last 2 ends to secure the win 22-12.
So onwards to the next round after a short break.
Round 1
- S.Atkinson (RY) 19 v S.Carter (HX) 1
Unfortunately Shelagh lost all the momentum from her first game and found it difficult to adjust to a different rink. Su kept the pressure on throughout the game and confidently won as Shelagh conceded after 9 ends.
- M.Ross (G) 21 v V.Dent (WR) 8
Mattea took to a different rink very quickly and after 10 ends was leading 10-5. Victoria was having difficulty on this rink with her weight control and no matter what she did, Mattea was there to keep taking the shot. After 15 ends Mattea had extended her lead to 17-6. Both ladies pushed hard but it was Mattea who maintained her form to take the game 21-8.
- V.Errington (BD) 23 v L.Bolam (PE) 10
2 more new faces in this competition were Val from Benfield and Linda from Ponteland. It was Val who took an early lead and after 6 ends was leading 9-2. Linda then took a 3 on the next end but Val replied with a 1&3 to lead 13-5 after 9 ends. Val maintained the pressure with another 3×3 to finish the game 23-10.
- P.Bell (GC) 22 v L . Stuart (AK) 13
2 more new faces to this competition were Pam from Gosforth and Coxlodge and Lesley from Alnwick.
After 5 ends Pam was leading 6-2. Lesley fought hard and after 12 ends she had taken a lead of 10-8. But Pam got in her stride again with a 1,3, &4 to take the lead again at 16-10. Despite Lesley trying hard it was Pam who finished with another 2&4 to finish the game 22-13.
So congratulations to our Semi Finalists:
- Su Atkinson (RY) v Mattea Ross (G)
