Day Eleven Dominance, Heart-Stopping Finishes, and Triples Progress!

Saturday at Leamington Spa brought another thrilling installment of blue riband bowls, featuring an absolute masterclass on one rink and a heart-wrenching, razor-thin battle on the other as our Gosforth triples took to the national stage!
Day Eleven Round-UpMen’s Triples Championship (Afternoon Session – Rink D3):
J. Minto, B. Byles, and C. Yeomans (Gosforth) put on an astonishing exhibition of bowls to completely blow their opposition away. Racing into a 4–1 lead after 3 ends, Yeomans’ triple put their foot firmly on the gas with a staggering surge: 13–1 after 6 ends, 17–1 incredibly after 8 ends, and 24–1 by the 11th end! Though their opponents managed a few consolation scores, our Gosforth lads never relented, powering across the line in a dominant 28–4 masterclass after 16 ends to storm into the next round!
Men’s Triples Championship (Afternoon Session – Rink B2):
S. Roberts, G. Bennett, and M. Bennett (Gosforth) engaged in a gripping, high-tension thriller against Leicestershire’s Holwell Sports triple (C. Rodgers, E. Giblett, and N. Hope). After an early arm-wrestle that saw the Gosforth trio claw back from 11–5 down to 14–10 and 17–10, the match erupted into life on the 17th end when the Bennetts struck a brilliant 4-shot haul to narrow the gap to just a single shot at 18–17! Trailing 18–17 heading into the final end, the lads laid two superb, potential-winning bowls right on the jack, only for Leicestershire’s skip to pull off a miraculous weighted shot to clear them both. With their final wood, Gosforth narrowly missed drawing the shot, dropping 1 on the end to finish at 19–17 in the cruellest of fashion. They played with immense heart and courage all the way!

Tomorrow morning brings another massive session as our women’s pairs begin their national campaigns, alongside Yeomans’ triple returning for their next round:
09:00 (Rink C2) – Women’s Pairs Championship: T. Napier and F. Charlton (Forest Hall) kick off their championship quest against Wiltshire’s L. Laytham and D. Davis (Purton).
09:00 (Rink D3) – Women’s Pairs Championship: C. Dawson and B. Ware (Whitley & Monkseaton) take to the green to face Dorset’s K. Hofen and M. Tuck (Poole Park).
09:00 (Rink TBC) – Men’s Triples Championship (Next Round): J. Minto, B. Byles, and C. Yeomans (Gosforth) return to action to face Northamptonshire’s M. James, A. Burrows, and M. Catlin (Thrapston).
