Day Five Drama and a Quarter-Final Thriller at Victoria Park!

Sunday brought another action-packed day of national finals bowls at Leamington Spa, featuring our senior rinks and a breathtaking double-header in the Amy Rose Bowl for our Angels of the North combined regional side!
Day Five Round-Up
Men’s Senior Fours Championship (Rink D1):
M. Dickinson, F. Short, D. Robson, and G. Myerscough (St Georges Dragons) got their campaign underway against Suffolk’s experienced Ipswich quartet (G. Howlett, K. Howlett, I. Parnell, and D. Andrews). In a tightly contested battle from the off, our St Georges Dragons rink fought hard on every end, ultimately missing out on a spot in the next round after a strong challenge from the Suffolk side.
Women’s Senior Fours Championship (Rink D3):
T. Taylor, H. Blair, S. Watts, and C. Brodie (Percy) took to the green to face Yorkshire’s South Cave four (M. Whittle, J. Stride, J. Duguid, and E. Dayes). Our Percy ladies showed great determination throughout the match, battling away before Yorkshire pulled clear to close out a 20–5 result.
Amy Rose Bowl Quarter-Final (Rinks B2 & B3):
What a nail-biter! Representing our region as part of the Angels of the North (Northumberland, Cumbria, and Yorkshire), our players delivered a stunning quarter-final victory against the Wessex Border Bowlers (Berkshire/Wiltshire). In a match that went right down to the wire, the pairs discipline fought hard despite a narrow 2-shot loss, while the triples put on a superb charge to win by 3 shots—securing an incredible 23–22 overall victory and a spot in the final four!
Amy Rose Bowl Semi-Final (Rink A):
Straight back onto the greens for the semi-finals, the Angels of the North faced a formidable Surrey side. Showing immense spirit across a demanding day of bowls, the squad gave it everything: the pairs put in a valiant shift to lose by just a single shot, while the triples battled through a tough 4-shot defeat, wrapping up a brilliant run with a 22–17 loss. To reach the national semi-finals is a fantastic achievement for all involved!
Looking Ahead to Day 6 (Monday 17th August)
The championship action rolls straight on tomorrow morning with the start of the singles:
09:15 (Rink B5) – Women’s Junior Singles Championship: K. Sultman (Forest Hall) kicks off her singles campaign against Wiltshire’s Zoe Fletcher (Westlecot).
