The Men’s 2 Bowl Singles continued on Monday evening – and the current champion remains in contention to lift the crown again, and their were a number of close contests tonight – two ties going to extra ends, and four other games were won by 1 shot. As previous current holder Graham Sivell (now of New Delaval Knights BC) edged out Whitley & Monkseaton’s Brian Younger 15 – 14. Past double champion Gosforth’s Brian Houghton beat Sivell’s clubmate Graeme Robinson 13 – 12 (another extra end was needed), as Brian got through in the triples on Friday by an extra end.  Another former champion St. George’s Karl Jameson got through defeating Colin Boyle at Portland 15 – 14.

At Gosforth there were another 4 other ties – Gosforth Daine Ross beat clubmate Paul Timney 15 – 14; previous runner up Portland’s young Grenville Richardson beat Gosforth’s Dave Lane,  and the final two ties saw comprehensive home wins for James McKenna over Forth’s Wayne Penton, and James Henderson (G) beat Westerhope’s Peter Gray 16 – 7. Henderson will take on the reigning champion at Gosforth next week, where there are a total of 5 ties.

Other notable wins saw another Gosforth player win at Ashington, with Mark Dickinson beating home favourite and 2023 semi finalist Paul Freeman 16 – 15 (on an extra end); St. Georges Dragon Gary Myerscough beat Cramlington’s Tony Fantozzi, scoring on the last 2 ends to win 15 – 12. There were good home wins at Benfield for Jonty King beating Mike Shepherd (NB), and Matty Bishop defeating Simon Donaghy (M). At Ashington there was better news for club colleague George Richardson who won 17 -8 beating Walker St. Peters Rob McKinnon. The final couple of games to report were away wins for Cramlington’s Dave Clough at Rockcliffe; the other ties were played earlier and saw Gosforth’s Steve Miller recover from 12 – 7 down to win 17 – 13 at New Delaval Knights against Ryan Warnes-Hall, and the final tie was R Lowe (Morpeth) beat Westerhops’s Gareth Heard in another contest that was settled by one shot again (16 – 15).

Round 4 is scheduled for next Monday – 27th May.
