On Sunday 20th June, Burradon played host to the opening stages of the ladies 2 bowl singles.
Once again, we saw a number of withdrawals, meaning we only had 3 games scheduled in our preliminary round as opposed to 8.
L Taylor (HX) faced Gosforth’s S Storey and lost 6 shots to 20. Storey went on to play R Cartwright (BD) in the next round and got beat (7 – 17) – Cartwright progresses to the Semi-Finals.
Taylor’s team mate, S Carter (HX) had better luck as she defeated M Ross (G) in the opening rounds, but that luck soon ran out as R Robinson (W) scored a decisive 18 – 2 win in the last 8. This win came after Robinson narrowly beat R Brown (AK) in the final opening tie, scoring 4 on the last 2 ends winning 13 – 17.
It was great news for both Benfield and Wooler that day, as the remainder fixtures saw V Symons (W) defeat Amble’s M McNally, and current holder P Browne (BD) remain on course to retain her title – after defeating S Ratcliffe (AK) 18 – 5.
The semi-final will be played on Saturday 3rd July alongside the 4 wood singles, club still TBC.
