A great end to the women’s county competitions today holding the semi finals and final of our double rinks competition at Rockcliffe BC.

 

Semi Finals:

Newbiggin 28 v Benfield 40

Joint scores after 2 ends the teams were level on 2-2. After 5 ends Benfield were in the lead 16-8. After 10 ends Benfield had increased their lead to 31-13. Newbiggin were fighting back hard and after 15 ends they had cut their deficit to 25-34. However, Benfield kept the pressure on and won the game 40-28.

 

Forest Hall 39 v Whitley & Monkseaton 24

Joint scores after 2 ends Forest Hall were leading 5-3. After 5 ends W&M were leading 10-8. After 10 ends W&M had increased their lead to 19-15. Forest Hall piled the pressure on in the second half of the game and after 15 ends they had taken a lead of 32-23. Forest Hall maintained their form and won the game 39-24.


 

Final:

Forest Hall 33 v Benfield 34

Spectators were treated to a great final match with some spectacular shots from both sides and both teams.

Joint scores after 2 ends was 4-1 to Benfield. After 5 ends Benfield were still leading 9-6. After 10 ends Benfield were still maintaining their lead at 22-16. Then things started to get very exciting as after 14 ends Forest Hall took the lead for the first time at 29-27. After 16 ends the teams were level on 30-30. After 17 ends Benfield had re- taken the lead at 33-30. So it was all to play for on the 18th end! V.Errington’ s team finished first (20-17) bringing the joint score to 33-33. So it was all down to R.Cartwiright’s team and T.Heron’s team to win the game for their club! No pressure there then! Forest Hall were holding 3 near the jack when Rachel came in and took the jack back to score 1 for Benfield!! What a finish to a very exciting final!

Congratulations to Benfield on winning the trophy this year and Forest Hall were incredible runner ups, losing out by just 1 point!

 

A big thank you to Rockcliffe BC for hosting this event, providing great support and fab refreshments for all our players and spectators! A lovely treat of a glass of pink Prosecco for all the players today, which was well received by all of us, a nice touch! Thank you so much.
