We now know which teams have made it through to the semi finals. There were 2 domineering wins and 2 very closely fought games, which concluded tonight.
K.Proctor (BD) 30 v J.Gledhill (NB) 13
Newbiggin took an early lead of 3-1 after 3 ends. Then Benfield took a 1&4 on the next 2 ends to lead 5-3. Newbiggin replied with a 3&4 on ends 5&6 to retake the lead again 10-5. Benfield replied with a 6&2×2 on the following 3 ends putting them back in front 15-10. They were now on a roll scoring their second 6 on end 11 to extend their lead to 21-11.
Newbiggin pushed on but only managed a further 2 points while Benfield with the bit between their teeth, scored a further 3, 2×1 & 4 to finish 30-13 and secured their place in the semi finals.
S.Carter (HX) 20 v S.Alden (AM) 6
Hexham Elvaston got off to a flying start taking a 6 on the first end! After 5 ends they were leading 9-2, and after 10 ends they had extended their lead to 14-4. Amble scored on end 11 but it was Hexham Elvaston who pushed on to take the last 3 ends with a 2, 1 & 3 to finish the game on 20-6 securing their place in the semi finals.
B.Hamilton (NB) 15 v V.Errington (BD) 14
Newbiggin took the first 2 ends to lead 2-0. Benfield immediately replied on the next 3 ends with a 2,4 & 1 to take a lead of 7-2. Newbiggin on end 6 took a 4 to cut their deficit to 6-7. Then continued to dig deep and took 4 ends on the run so by end 11 they had regained the lead with 12-9.
By end 13 it was all level on 12-12.
By end 15 they were tied again on 13-13. This game could have gone either way. Newbiggin took ends 16&17 to lead 15-13. But Benfield were were not giving up without a fight and were trying to force an extra end. However, they only scored 1 on the last end which meant Newbiggin won the game 15-14 and secured their place in the semi finals.
A.Stevenson (GC) 16 v M.Green (NB) 15
The last scorecard of the evening showed what a very tight game this was, and really it could have gone either way!
Newbiggin playing away from home were leading 5-0 after 3 ends. Gosforth Coxlodge took the following 2 ends to cut their deficit to 4-5. Both teams pushed on hard and by end 8 Newbiggin scored a 3 to lead 10-5. But they then stalled on 10 for 5 ends as Gosforth Coxlodge pushed on so by the 13th end they had taken a lead of 14-10. Roles were then reversed as Gosforth Coxlodge stalled on 14 for 3 ends giving Newbiggin the chance to draw level 14-14 on the 16th end. Gosforth Coxlodge took a 2 on end 17 to go into the last end 16-14! Newbiggin were trying to force an extra end but they only managed to score 1, meaning Gosforth Coxlodge won 16-15 and gained their place in the semi finals!
