By the Green-side Insider
What a magnificent Saturday it has been at Victoria Park! While your Green-side Insider battled transit delays to make it down to Leamington Spa, the Jameson duo were busy delivering a masterclass on the greens, steering Northumberland all the way through to the grand final of the Family Pairs Championship and securing a fantastic silver medal.
Quarter-Final Thriller: Rink D5
L. Jameson & K. Jameson (Gosforth, Northumberland) 17–16 D. Clarke & Neil Clarke (Gilt Edge, Worcestershire)
The morning session got off to a blistering start with an absolute nail-biter against Worcestershire’s father-and-son pairing. The quarter-final was a game of supreme momentum shifts: the Jamesons edged ahead 6–5 after 5 ends, before stretching their advantage to 16–11 by the 14th end.
However, the Worcestershire duo fought back tenaciously, reeling our lads in to level the scores at 16–16 heading into the very last end. With everything on the line, the Jamesons showed iron-clad composure under immense pressure, holding the vital last bowl to secure a heart-stopping 17–16 victory and punch their ticket to the final four.
Semi-Final Grit: Rink A2
L. Jameson & K. Jameson (Gosforth, Northumberland) 15–13 Z. Brown & P. Brown (Whittlesey Manor, Huntingdonshire)
Carrying that momentum straight into the semi-finals, our Gosforth pair faced Huntingdonshire’s formidable Brown family on rink A2.
The Jamesons came flying out of the blocks, racing into an 8–0 lead after just 5 ends. Huntingdonshire steadily chipped away at the deficit, narrowing the gap to 8–4, then 10–6 at the 11th end, and staying within striking distance at 11–9 and 15–11. Refusing to panic as the pressure mounted over the closing ends, L. Jameson and K. Jameson held firm down the stretch to close out a brilliant 15–13 win, sealing their place in the national final!
The National Final: A Heart-Fighting Silver Finish
In the ultimate showdown, the Jamesons put on a stellar display of bowls. Edging out early at 2–1 after 2 ends and 5–2 after 5, our lads picked up a brilliant score of 3 to lead 8–3 by the 7th end. The opposition fought back to level at 8–8 by the 10th, before the Jamesons nudged back ahead 10–8 and 11–12. After dropping a crucial 3-shot count on the 15th end and trailing 15–11 at the 17th, the Gosforth duo showed incredible heart to fight right down to the wire, finishing just a three shots behind at 15–12 on the 18th end.
To stand on the podium as national silver medalists is an extraordinary achievement. Take a bow, L. Jameson and K. Jameson—Northumberland is immensely proud of your incredible run!
