Crawford Park BC, Northumberland

In just one year, the club has transformed its membership, community impact, and inclusivity. Membership has grown from 37 in 2024 to 70 in 2025, including a rise in female members from 7 to 24, reversing an ageing profile and creating a more diverse, vibrant, and sustainable club.

After completing the Bowls England Club Health Checker, the club successfully secured £35,000 in grants and sponsorship via the BE funding portal. This has enabled major clubhouse renovations, the introduction of family bowling, and new activities for community groups. A further £47,000 project for a disabled toilet and access ramp is underway, ensuring the club is fully accessible.

The club now works closely with a wide range of organisations, greatly extending its reach and impact. Weekly sessions with Deaf Awareness NE, regular engagement with Co-Op for Fun Sake North Tyneside, and volunteer support from EE and Lookers highlight the strength of partnerships. North Tyneside VODA has provided funding, volunteers, and networking support, while Active North Tyneside helped deliver a Family Fun Day attracting 125 attendees. Eleven members of the Whitley Bay Round Table also took part in club activities.

The club now boasts six sponsors and strong links with local councillors, including Sir Alan Campbell, Leader of the House of Commons, who launched their successful Big Bowls Weekend. Their proactive approach has positioned them as a model club within Northumberland and across England.

A wide range of inclusive activities, supported by targets, bowling aids, and volunteer guidance, ensures that all ages and abilities can take part. The club is committed to changing perceptions of bowls, opening its doors to everyone, and sharing its successful development model with other clubs.

Recognised as an ideal candidate for the Bowls Development Alliance’s Community Club programme, the club stands as a beacon of innovation, inclusivity, and community spirit—driving participation locally and inspiring clubs nationally.
