The stage is officially set for the business end of the Men’s County Triples, and history has been made on the greens! With a coveted spot in the semi-finals on the line, the quarter-finalists took to the turf for a series of high-stakes battles. When the dust settled, it was a truly staggering night for one single club, as Gosforth completely dominated the sheet to claim all four semi-final slots!
The Feature Battles: Close Contests and Dominant Displays
The Gosforth Clean Sweep: N. Armstrong (G) put on the most dominant performance of the round against J. King (BD). Armstrong’s rink was in a ruthless mood, locking down the jack from the early exchanges and never giving the Benfield trio a look-in. It was a clinical display from start to finish, with Armstrong breezing across the line to win 19–8.
Yeomans Halts Myerscough: Defending champion C. Yeomans (G) faced a tricky test against G. Myerscough (ST). While Myerscough pushed hard to keep the ends tight, the holders showed exactly why they wear the crown, navigating the tactical pressure to record an excellent 24–15 victory.
Grit, Guts, and Tight Finishes
Away from the larger scoring margins, the remaining Gosforth rinks had to show incredible resolve in two very closely fought battles to lock out the rest of the semi-final bracket:
Bennett Controls the Head: M. Bennett (G) put together a beautifully disciplined performance to take down a very tough S. Williams (HS) rink. Bennett handled the pressure brilliantly in a tight game, scoring consistently when it mattered most to secure an assured 18–11 win.
Harvey Holds Off Fantozzi: P. Harvey (G) engaged in a fantastic, close-quarters battle against A. Fantozzi (C). The Gosforth trio showed immense composure over the final ends, restricting Fantozzi’s scoring opportunities to close out a highly competitive 17–12 victory.
