Men’s Senior Fours: Quarter-Final Lineup Takes Shape After Bumper Three-Round Chase

By Your Green-Side Insider

The County Senior Fours championship moved at a lightning pace over the last couple of weeks, racing through three full rounds to find our quarter-finalists. With a Tuesday, June 23rd deadline hanging over the final Round 3 matches, the greens hosted a superb mix of early exits, resilient comebacks, and standout campaigns from the rinks safely through to the final stages.

The Front-Runners: Booking a Quarter-Final Spot

Three teams have already put together magnificent strings of victories to book their place in the tournament’s final eight:

Leeson Leading the Charge: R. Leeson (M) and his Morpeth rink have shown superb consistency from opening night. They set their stall out early with an 18–10 opening victory over M. Wilson (AM), before hitting top gear to defeat G. Richardson (PD) 22–9. They faced their toughest test in Round 3, but dug deep to hold off a fantastic challenge from D. Illingworth (R) 18–15 to secure their spot.

King of the Greens: Benfield’s J. King (BD) has enjoyed a brilliant, fluent run through the draw. After establishing a strong 19–8 win against J. Allen (PD) in Round 1, King’s unit grew in confidence, getting past D. Morton (R) 24–15. They saved their most authoritative display for Round 3, putting together a beautifully measured team performance to beat G. Robson (FH) 19–6 on away turf.

Myerscough Marches On: The G. Myerscough (ST) rink from St Georges has been a scoring powerhouse. After edging a tight, tactical battle against S. Harvey (G) 14–11 on opening night, they hit a blistering patch of form to defeat P. Moorhead (FH) 32–10. They carried that momentum straight into Round 3, putting on a masterful display to advance 19–6 against P. Duffy (G).

The Final Round 3 Showdown

All-Gosforth Derby to Settle the Bracket: The final remaining quarter-final spot in this section comes down to a mouth-watering club derby between S. Pallas (G) and J. Curtis (G). Pallas earned his way here by beating A. Bojke (HS) 20–10 and coming through a high-scoring thriller against T. Roberts (AP) 26–19. Curtis has had to work incredibly hard, winning a single-shot heartstopper against L. Taylor (AS) 19–18 before navigating past M. Shepherd (NB) 21–16. Their clash promises to be an absolute classic.

With the final spot being decided by Tuesday night, the path to the Senior Fours title is becoming incredibly clear, and the upcoming quarter-final ties look exceptionally strong.
