The Quarter-Finals Deliver and the Final Four Emerge
By Your Green-Side Insider
The quarter-final stage of the County Pairs has been fought with intensity, producing some of the most compelling matches of the season so far. With the field now reduced to the final four pairs, the race to the championship trophy is heating up as we head toward the semi-finals.
Quarter-Final Highlights: Resilience and Rallies
The round was defined by a mix of high-scoring momentum shifts and grit under pressure. The path to the semi-finals saw two notable performances that captured the spirit of this year’s competition:
Myerscough’s Remarkable Recovery: In a display of true persistence, G. Myerscough (ST) faced a stern test against C. Yeomans (G). After a difficult start, Myerscough orchestrated a significant comeback, turning the tide to secure a convincing 22–14 victory.
Byles Digs Deep: B. J. Byles (G) faced a stern challenge against A. Johnson (BD). Johnson arrived at this stage following a hard-fought catch-up tie the day prior, where he defeated the defending champions N. Aitchison (ST) and C. McGready (ST), 18–13. Building on that momentum, Johnson pushed Byles hard, leading for much of the contest. However, Byles remained composed and found his range in the final few ends, pulling away to win a hard-fought 19–13 encounter.
Richardson and Jameson Progress: G. Richardson (AS) maintained his steady form, edging out M. Heron (RY) in a razor-thin 20–18 contest. Meanwhile, L. Jameson (G) showed great focus to navigate past M. Bowyer (ST) in a high-quality 20–17 result.
The Final Four: The Semi-Final Draw
With the quarter-finals concluded, the focus now shifts to the semi-finals. We are down to the final four pairs who have showcased the skill and composure required to reach this elite stage.
With these four exceptional pairs remaining, the semi-finals promise to be an outstanding showcase of the game. Which of these pairings are you backing to secure their place in the county final?
