BE Nationals Day 3 & 4…(updated)

Back to news

Saturday, day 3 of the Bowls England National Finals – and it saw our hope in the Men’s 4 Wood Singles in St. Georges Dragon Chris McGready.

Chris was playing in the quarter final against Leicestershire’s Darren Allsop. Allsop got off to a good start and led 9 – 5. Chris fought back to only trail 13 – 12. But unfortunately this would be the last time Chris would score, as Allsop scored a 2, 3 and 4 to wrap up the victory 21 – 12. Although a disappointment in the loss but Chris performed very well over the 2 days, and he should be proud of his efforts, as he did himself proud, as well as his club and county. Well done Chris.

Day 4 (Sunday)

The Men’s pairs has started and both of our representatives were in action. Firstly our champions of Gosforth’s Josh Minto & Chris Yeomans recorded a comprehensive win over Northamptonshire’s Jack Tobin & Neil Corbyn 21 – 4. Josh & Chris are back on later day (at 5pm), where they will face a tough game against Appleyard BC, Kent’s Josh Punds & Sean Coyle on A green.

On our other representative’s it wasn’t good news – as St. Georges’ Dragons pair of Alan Stewart & Stephen Harvey lost out to Elliot Guthrie & Jack Emmerson of Newart Northern, Nottinghamshire 25 – 14.

Also in action today will be our ladies triples of Benfield’s Pat Browne, Rachel Cartwright & Kayleigh Proctor start their campaign today and in a way will be looking for revenge! As our girls face the same opposition that they had in the 4’s, and they lost by 1 – and the Berkshire quartet went to lose in the final by 1 shot yesterday afternoon. Anyway back to today Pat, Rachel & Kayleigh play at 2pm and I will keep posted as things develop through the day.

Updates: Pat, Rachel and Kayleigh recorded a super win over Berkshire 18 – 10. They will play round 2 tomorrow at 9:30am and will take on our neighbours from Durham – in a triple from Consett Park.

In the Men’s pairs, in Round 2 Josh & Chris as advised above played Kent B and a strong pair from Appleyard BC in Josh Pounds & Sean Coyle, unfortunately our lads lost out on an extra end by 13 shots to 12.

Overall in the Men’s pairs it was a bad day for the Northern counties – as all representatives lost today (Cumbria, Lancashire and both Yorkshire pairs lost in round 1, and both of Durham’s pairs lost this afternoon after 2 victories this morning).
