Women’s 4 Wood Champion of Champions
The weather was very kind to us today for our competition held at Percy this morning, except for the wind!! However, that did not deter the competitors, who produced some outstanding play in front of a crowd of spectators.
Due to the fact that we had 9 competitors, it meant that we also had to play a preliminary round. So one person would end up playing 3 rounds today!
Rachel Cartwright drew the short straw but she certainly took it in her stride and Rachel certainly was on fire today! She won her preliminary match against M. McNally (AM) 21-5. She then met Sheila Storey (G) in the next round and won convincingly 21-8.
This took her into the semi-final match against A. Dunton (P). Amy took an early lead of 8-2 after 7 ends, but Rachel gradually fought back so by the 11th end the score was 8-8. Rachel went on to win 21-10 in a very exciting match which everyone enjoyed watching.
The other semi-final took place between V. Symons (WR) and S. MacDonald (HX) and this was a very close marathon match which again delighted the spectators. After end 13 the scores were level at 9-9. It was incredibly close and they drew level again on end 19 at 13-13. The game continued like this right up to end 29 where their scores were level again at 20-20. On end 30 Victoria took one point to win the game 21-20. What a game!! Well done to both ladies for lasting that long and still producing some great shots!
This means that Rachel Cartwright will meet Victoria Symons in the final on Saturday 25th June at 10.30am at Forest Hall. It will be a great game to watch, so we hope as many people as possible can come and support them both.
Rachel is also in the 2 Wood Champion of Champions final on the same day against Susan MacDonald (HX).
A special thank you to the members of Percy Bowling Club who provided fantastic refreshments, which kept our competitors and spectators very happy!!
