Tonight, Thursday (26th) brought the 2nd round action of the Men’s Edwardson Cup competition. Holders Benfield stayed on course to retain their title, by recording a comprehensive away win at Seghill 68 – 41.

Benfield will have another trip next week, where they will face Rothbury – where Rothbury recovered from an early deficit to defeat Ponteland 60 – 47.

In other games multiple previous champions will play next week, as Gosforth won at Portland BC 57 – 46 and this is despite only winning on one rink and can possibly thank their victory with the rink skipped by Simon Richardson winning by 17.  Gosforth will have home advantage where they will take on St. Georges Dragons, as the Dragons defeated Gosforth Garden Village away 34 – 63.

The last few heats saw 3 home wins, and a good away win – firstly Forth continued their impressive home form, and they beat Rockcliffe 47 – 39. Forth will again have home territory next week, and will play Forest Hall – who overcome Alnwick 60 – 47 at home, with Dave Bell winning on their only winning rink by some 15 shots. The other two wins were North Shields West End defeating Heaton Victoria 57 – 36 at the Parks. North Shields West End will take on New Delaval Knights next week at North Shields; as the “Knights” recorded a good away win at Walker St. Peters this evening by only 4 shots.
