Pairs 1/4 Finals

2011 Champions Ian Brown & Paul Ging (BW) recorded a great victory tonight at Gosforth (Michael Cymber & Simon Richardson), coming back from 10 - 1 and then 20 - 9 at 14 ends; Brown & Ging then scored 14 shots over 5 of the next 6 ends to put them 2 up playing the 21st end, where they only conceded 1 shot and took the tie 23 - 22.

Brown & Ging will now face clubmates Michael London & Jonny Morgan, who overcome the Donkins (Rob & Graeme) from Rothbury. The Backworth pair got off to a great start being 12 - 3 up at 5 ends, the lead was reduced throughout but a count of 5 and then 1 put the Backworth pair 10 up at 14 ends. From this point the Rothbury pair hit back and a count of 4 on the 19th end drew them level at 23 all. However, London & Morgan were not to be denied and scored 2 3's to win 29 -23.

There was an impressive away victory by the Portland pair of Colin Boyle & Gren Richardson, defeating Newbiggin's Alan Stewart & Jacky Taylor (21-17).  The Portland pairs' opponents in the semi-final will be Backworth's Steve Welsh & Andy Johnson Snr, who defeated Collingwood's Martin Hayden & Graham Hogg. The game fluctuated throughout with the Backworth pair building a lead of 22 - 6 at 10 ends (including an 8 shot maximum), the Collingwood duo then scored 15 unanswered shots over the next 5 ends to only trail by 1. The game then changed again with the Backworth pair scoring 5 of the last 6 ends to run out 31 - 23 winners.
