Men’s 2 Bowl Preview

Back to news

After a season lost due to the pandemic the Men’s County competitions get underway on Monday evening with the commencement of the Two Bowl Singles.

The current holder, and for 2 years’ as well that is Gosforth’s Simon Richardson starts his campaign at home to Alnwick’s George Batey. Alongside Simon there are 4 other games at Gosforth that evening (was due to be 5 – but one game has been conceded), two of them being all Gosforth affairs. The possible standout tie of these 4 is past England Junior International (and Captain) Josh Minto facing 2017 runner up Simon Taws (Portland).

Other notable ties away from Gosforth sees Taws team mate Colin Boyle (PD) take on St. Georges Neil Aitchison, and another tie sees two former champions go head to head where 2017 winner Jonny Morgan (Benfield) plays 2009 champion Steve Pallas (Gosforth).

Just a reminder to each home player that they need to offer a minimum of 2 rinks (this rule has not changed, unfortunately!).

Finally I wish every competitor the very best of luck in their games, and I’m sure to be playing competitive bowls again is good for all concerned. And perhaps the weather may improve with less hail stones!
