Alsop Cup Defeat

Back to news

Northumberland’s Alsop Cup campaign ended unfortunately with a 3rd successive loss, this time at the hands of Cumbria at Courtfield BC, Cumbria this afternoon.

Cumbria looking to win the Alsop Cup for the first time in 4 years, only needed 3 points to lift the trophy.

The game started okay with the score being Cumbria 27 Northumberland 23 at 5 ends. At 10 ends we found ourselves in front – Cumbria 51 Northumberland 56. The scores remained tight with Cumbria taking a slender lead at the 15 end stage – Cumbria 84 Northumberland 80. However, from this point Cumbria forged ahead and led by 27 shots at 18 ends – Cumbria 113 Northumberland 84. The game continued with the same pattern and Cumbria duly took the victory – Cumbria 127 Northumberland 102 – and collected 20 points to 2.

We would like to congratulate Cumbria not just on their victory today but in them lifting the Alsop Trophy – well done to all concerned.

Cumbria Alsop Winning Team

Please note the Lancashire v Yorkshire game was cancelled (probably as neither team could/can win the Alsop Cup (and with Covid of course) – so I doubt it will be re-arranged this season.
