Championship update - 16th August.

Pairs first round commenced at 9:30am where R Brown (AK) narrowly lost out with a 20-21 defeat to Hunts which came as a result of an extra end. Meanwhile K Proctor (BD) made quick work of Wilshire, progressing to round 2 with a 29-14 victory. Their success was short lived as they suffered a devastating 25-8 defeat against Somerset later that afternoon.

A day of rest for Northumberland Women tomorrow as their penultimate championship takes place 1pm on Saturday. Our Junior Pair duo R Cartwright (BD) and M Ross (G) face Cambridgeshire in their first round.

Championship update - 15th August.

S Carter (HX) continued in a blaze of glory, defeating Kent 16-10 which meant she faced Leicestershire in the last 16 for her place in the quarter finals. This tie proved to be her closest game yet as she was 2 down going into the last end, sadly it wasn't meant to be as she ultimately lost out 16-13. FANTASIC EFFORT!!
In the afternoon R Brown (AK) put on a show for the spectators! 5 up with 2 ends to play and the Norfolk skip played an impressive shot to score 3 making it anyone's game going into the last end. Shots were againts when Ray came to play her penultimate bowl, this drew in for an amazing second. Norfolk failed to play the bowl out for the game which meant Ray could surrender her last bowl, therefore only dropping 1 to win the tie 21-20. They'll face Hunts tomorrow morning.
Also in action tomorrow are sisters K Proctor and R Cartwright (BD) as they take on Wiltshire.

Singles Results

Monday evening brought the next round of the 4-Wood Singles with a number of close games and finishes. Holder Backworth's Paul Ging stayed on course and will now face a former champion Dave Thompson (HV) next week, other former champions to proceed were Gosforth's trio of Brian Houghton, Kevin Bone, Richard Train.

Alsop Cup Victory

Northumberland's Alsop team faced Cumbria at Courtfield BC in a must win game. The game started off really well and we had a 25 shot advantage at 5 ends, maintained through 10 and 15 ends. However, from this point Cumbria started to claw this deficit back. Despite this late rally our lads took the victory.

Triples Round 3 Results

Round 3 of the triples was played tonight. It was a good evening for Gosforth, with the West Avenue club having 3 victories out of 3 so far (and now 4 out of 4 - with the last game eventually reported). Possibly the best result of the evening was the triple skipped by Collingwood's Alan Hall recording a great victory at Backworth's Paul Ging.

Pairs Results

Round 3 of the pairs was completed tonight (Thursday). Both of the 2017 finalists Gosforth's Mick McGreevy and holders Chris Yeomans progressed, although Yeomans had to overturn a 13-1 deficit to advance to Round 4.
