Championship update - 16th August.

Pairs first round commenced at 9:30am where R Brown (AK) narrowly lost out with a 20-21 defeat to Hunts which came as a result of an extra end. Meanwhile K Proctor (BD) made quick work of Wilshire, progressing to round 2 with a 29-14 victory. Their success was short lived as they suffered a devastating 25-8 defeat against Somerset later that afternoon.

A day of rest for Northumberland Women tomorrow as their penultimate championship takes place 1pm on Saturday. Our Junior Pair duo R Cartwright (BD) and M Ross (G) face Cambridgeshire in their first round.

Championship update - 15th August.

S Carter (HX) continued in a blaze of glory, defeating Kent 16-10 which meant she faced Leicestershire in the last 16 for her place in the quarter finals. This tie proved to be her closest game yet as she was 2 down going into the last end, sadly it wasn't meant to be as she ultimately lost out 16-13. FANTASIC EFFORT!!
-----
In the afternoon R Brown (AK) put on a show for the spectators! 5 up with 2 ends to play and the Norfolk skip played an impressive shot to score 3 making it anyone's game going into the last end. Shots were againts when Ray came to play her penultimate bowl, this drew in for an amazing second. Norfolk failed to play the bowl out for the game which meant Ray could surrender her last bowl, therefore only dropping 1 to win the tie 21-20. They'll face Hunts tomorrow morning.
Also in action tomorrow are sisters K Proctor and R Cartwright (BD) as they take on Wiltshire.

4 Bowl Singles

Monday saw the first round of the blue ribband event - the 4-Bowl Singles. In the 1st round there is no fewer than 7 former singles champions due to play.

Alsop Team Win

The Alsop Cup team started their 2018 campaign with a decisive home win against Lancashire at St. Georges. Northumberland started well, and had a 32 shot advantage at 5 ends, this was extended further to 42 shots at the midway point. This continued and Northumberland increased their lead over the last few ends, and ran out worthy winners - with the score being 159 to 88, and collected 18 of the 22 points.

Middleton Cup Starts

Saturday brought the first Middleton Cup game, with an away game against Lancashire. The side looking to build on the success from last season unfortuantely got off to a bad start, being 12 shots behind at 5 ends, and 36 at the halfway stage. The team slightly rallied at this point but with Lancashire having a good cushion maintained this advantage and ran out 140 - 104 winners, and we collected 4 points.

Fours Opening Round

The opening round of the fours was played this evening, and the holders Chris Yeomans recorded a good win and advances to round 2. However, the 2017 runners-up Darren Cooper (HX) are out, losing by 1 against Backworth's George Parker.
