Men’s Singles Continues…

Back to news

Monday evening brought the continuation of the Men’s 4 Wood Singles, with the top half of round 2 being played.

There were only 11 ties played tonight, due to a couple of games played early, and a couple of walk-overs unfortunately. There were 4 former champions including the current holder in action tonight, with 3 of them facing potential tricky away ties. Firstly Gosforth’s Michael Cymber defeated Portland’s Gren Richardson, with Michael scoring on the last 4 ends (1, 3, 2, 2) to win 21 – 16. Michael will now face another former champion in round 3, as St. George’s Phil Harvey defeated another Portland player in Colin Boyle 21 – 12. The current holder Gosforth’s John Harthen won at Cramlington against Phil Ging 21 -11. The last of the former champions Gosforth’s Mick McGreevy recorded a good home win over Rockcliffe’s Shaun Lee Brown 21 – 7.

Of the 11 ties played tonight there were 8 away wins – with Seaton Sluice’s John Watson winning at Gosforth Garden Village against Norman Keith 21 – 15; Gosforth’s Chris Brown had an impressive win at Forest Hall over Chris Coan, St. George’s Michael Barrass got over the line in a close contest at Heaton Victoria against Norman Bell (21 – 17), and Rory Adamson (Health & Security) had a great win at Gosforth defeating James McKenna 21 – 10.

There were notable home wins for St. Georges’ Kevin Blaylock, defeating Hexham House’s Clive Knott 21 – 12, and Walker St. Peters Jim Askwith beat Benfield’s Paul Proctor 21 – 18.
